The Nigerian Police Force has invited social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for questioning over allegations that some police personnel connive with kidnappers.
VDM reportedly made the claims at the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference, alleging that officers stationed at checkpoints along major highways provide kidnappers and bandits with information about travellers, including their identities and movements.
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Police spokesperson Ani Iniedu dismissed the allegations as unsubstantiated and damaging to the reputation of the force.
The police maintained that officers deployed to checkpoints are there to prevent crime, detect criminal activities and protect citizens, noting that some personnel have been ambushed and killed while carrying out their duties.
The Force said allegations of such gravity require corresponding evidence, adding that VDM has been invited to provide clarification and substantiate his claims.
