President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held a series of closed-door meetings with senior political figures and government officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio arrived at the Villa at about 6:12pm, while Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was already meeting with the President.
About an hour later, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, arrived at the Villa, followed by House of Representatives member Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, was also seen at the Presidential Villa during the period.
The specific agenda of the meetings was not immediately disclosed by the Presidency or the officials involved.
Oyetola’s visit is particularly notable coming shortly after the August 15 Osun State governorship election, in which his successor as governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared winner.
The meetings also took place just one day before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) setting August 19, 2026, as the campaign start date.
The timing has attracted political attention as parties and major political figures intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. However, there has been no official indication that the closed-door meetings were specifically focused on campaign strategy.
A Federal Executive Council meeting was also scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, which may explain the presence of some cabinet members at the Villa.
