The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has advised parents to verify whether their children are benefiting from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Oyedele made the remark on Thursday while responding to an audience member who said his three children in school had not received NELFUND support and that they were unaware of friends who had benefited from the scheme.
The minister said the government’s experience with the student loan scheme indicated that some beneficiaries had received alerts after applying, suggesting that some students may not have informed their parents about receiving the funds.
Oyedele also recalled how students he had previously supported through his personal foundation continued seeking financial assistance, despite being directed to apply for available government support.
The NELFUND scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to eligible Nigerian students in tertiary institutions to help cover education-related expenses.
