Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has been ranked eighth in Nigeria and 2,338th globally in the July 2026 Webometrics Global Ranking.
The university also placed 57th in Africa, ranking among the institutions recognised for their growing academic visibility, research output and digital presence.
The development has attracted commendation from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), OOU branch, which praised Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Johnson Agboola, and his management team for the institution’s improved performance.
In a statement signed by ASUU-OOU Chairperson, Yinusa Ganiyu, the union described the ranking as evidence of OOU’s growing visibility, academic productivity, research output, digital presence and international recognition.
ASUU also acknowledged the contributions of academic and non-academic staff as well as students to the university’s progress over the past four years.
The union urged the university community to remain united and committed to sustaining the gains, while warning against distractions capable of undermining the institution’s recent progress.
According to the ranking report, OOU’s position places it among more than 32,000 universities worldwide.
