The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged murder of 56-year-old Kelechi Madu in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
The victim was reportedly declared missing by his wife on August 18, 2026, after he left home on the evening of August 17 and failed to return.
According to the police, Madu was later found dead in a nearby bush at Umuobi, Awkuzu, with a deep axe wound to his head. His remains were evacuated and deposited at a hospital for preservation.
Police said the prime suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ifeanyi Nwankwo, was a friend of the deceased. He allegedly confessed to plotting the murder and engaging two other people to carry out the killing.
Investigators reportedly discovered that Nwankwo had allegedly collected money from Madu under the guise of helping him acquire a piece of land. Police believe the murder was allegedly planned to conceal the fraudulent transaction and suppress the money involved.
The police said the investigation is ongoing, with the suspects expected to face legal proceedings after the completion of the investigation.
