The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the Osun State Government’s bank accounts which were earlier frozen over allegations of diversion and improper handling of public funds.
The accounts, domiciled with First Bank of Nigeria and Zenith Bank, are now reportedly operational. The EFCC had placed restrictions on the accounts on August 5, 2026, as part of an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of about ₦11 billion in ecology funds, intervention funds and allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The development followed President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, after he directed the EFCC to approach the court to vacate the order freezing the state government’s accounts.
Governor Ademola Adeleke subsequently directed the withdrawal of the legal action filed by the state against the EFCC over the account restriction. However, the EFCC’s underlying investigation remains a separate matter.
