The traditional ruler of Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, has been abducted by armed gunmen.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the attackers invaded Igbesi, a community within Oke-Onigbin in Kwara South. The monarch was reportedly taken away to an undisclosed location.
While some reports claimed that other residents were also abducted during the attack, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed the monarch’s abduction but disputed reports of other kidnappings, saying the account of multiple attacks was inaccurate.
The police said security operatives are working to locate and rescue the traditional ruler, whose whereabouts remained unknown as of the latest reports.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and renewed attention to security challenges affecting communities in parts of Kwara State.
