Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has weighed in on the ongoing debate about respect and how younger people address older people, following the viral video involving UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu.
In a resurfaced video, Bello said she does not appreciate being addressed simply by her first name by people much younger than her. She argued that younger people should use respectful titles when addressing elders.
The actress also expressed her dislike for casual greetings such as “Hi,” saying, “There is even something about this ‘Hi’; I can’t stand it.”
Bello’s comments have resurfaced online shortly after a video showed Elumelu correcting a young woman who addressed him as “Tony” during a UBA event. Elumelu asked her to call him “Mr Elumelu,” “TOE” or “Chairman,” sparking a wider conversation about workplace culture, age and respect.
